Action Tutoring is a national education charity dedicated to supporting pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to reach a meaningful level of academic attainment in their SATs and GCSEs.
They do this by using volunteer tutors to support pupils with their English or maths in weekly virtual one-hour sessions at partner schools for 7-10 weeks. As seen in the news and media, the impact of the pandemic has been and still is significant to the education of the disadvantaged pupils we work with (the government classify “disadvantaged” as those who are or have been eligible for free school meals in the last six years, or meet other exceptions criteria).
The charity has been approved as a provider for the National Tutoring Programme (NTP). The NTP is funded as part of the government’s £1 billion coronavirus catch-up package and will provide additional support to schools to help disadvantaged pupils whose education has been most affected by school closures. Our charity has been refining our impactful tutoring model for disadvantaged pupils for nearly a decade, and this initiative and additional funding will allow them to scale our work to reach thousands more pupils across the country, and we need more wonderful volunteer tutors!
