Special Events

Welcome to the Special Events page! This is a chance to engage with kids or the elderly from the local community through themed one-day events. You can volunteer for all or just one of these events across the year.

If you’re interested in taking part in any of our Special Events listed below; please contact project leaders Lizzy De Jongh, < href="mailto:N.J.Callaway-17@student.lboro.ac.uk">Nathan Callaway and James Clift.

Tea Dance

Action volunteers organise a set of truly memorable afternoons for elderly residents where the supply of tea and cakes never runs out and the music evokes memories of days gone by. With music supplied by Tuxedo Swing, this popular occasion is loved by all who take part.

A FlicK Down Memory Lane

Action volunteers become old-fashioned cinema ushers and usherettes, creating the feel of a traditional cinema experience for our local elderly residents where "old-style" films will be played, with a refreshments interval.

Kids Parties

A fun day for kids from the community to enjoy a themed party full of various activities organised by the Action volunteers.

Community Fun Day

This wonderful summer event sees students and the local community come together for a fantastic, fun-filled day based on a traditional village fête, and also brings down the curtain on our Special Events calendar. The fun never stops with donkey rides, a bouncy castle, coconut shie and Punch & Judy being just a few of the attractions. Volunteers run stalls, paint faces, braid hair, run races, man the information point and much, much more, generally helping to make the event the success that it always is!

Recruitment for volunteers will be done a few weeks prior to each event, so if you like the sound of any event, sign up below and keep your calendar free and eyes peeled for our emails/Facebook posts. Please make sure you are all a part of our Facebook group:
