On Wednesday 8th December 2021, it was announced that the Government will be introducing additional COVID-19 measures in response to the increasing number of reported COVID-19 cases, particularly surrounding the Omicron variant.

As part of the Government’s Plan B response, updated measures include:

  • Face masks to become compulsory in most public indoor venues, other than hospitality, from Friday 10th December 2021.
  • NHS COVID Pass to be mandatory in specific settings (including large venues and nightclubs), using a negative test or full vaccination via the NHS COVID Pass, from Wednesday 15th December 2021.

Whilst LSU will continue to operate as normal until the final day of term (Friday 17th December 2021), we will be introducing a number of important changes to reassure and protect everyone when attending or visiting LSU.

Face Coverings

We are asking all students, staff, and visitors to be responsible and wear a face covering when moving around the building and within busy, crowded communal areas (unless medically exempt), and to maintain social distancing (where possible). Face coverings should only be removed when eating or drinking.

The use of face coverings continues to be a mandatory requirement within LSU’s retail outlets, (including the Union Shop, The Purple Onion, The Stash Shop, The Daily Grind, and Subway).

Updated COVID-19 Venue Entry Requirements

From Wednesday 15th December, as a condition of entry, LSU will be asking all customers to present a valid NHS COVID Pass when attending club nights and large-scale events.

This will entail a visual check on entry for one of the following certifications (as evidenced via the NHS COVID Pass):

  • Double vaccine status
  • A negative lateral flow or PCR test result taken 48 hours prior to the event
  • COVID immunity (demonstrated via a positive PCR test result in the past six months and you have completed your self-isolation period).

LSU will also continue to operate enhanced cleaning regimes including:

  • Hand Sanitiser stations placed across the venue and LSU will be encouraging good hygiene practices by all visitors.
  • LSU has enhanced its cleaning regimes before, during and post event, sanitising all surfaces throughout its venues to reduce the risk of contact infections.

Student Group Activity

Whilst planned Student Group activity will be able to continue, LSU will be asking students to wear a face covering (unless medically exempt) when operating within indoor settings and to review activities to allow social distancing (where possible).

All measures are implemented in accordance with the current advice and guidance from UK and local Government, and will be continually reviewed.
