I trust you are keeping well. Following communication that was sent out on 2 February regarding LSU Policy and Procedures, I am writing in response to queries raised.
It has come to our attention that some of our team were not made aware of the changes to our policies and procedures, which were approved by both the Board of Trustees and the HR & Remuneration Committee. Therefore, I would like to provide formal notice to employees employed before 1 March 2020 that the new policies and procedures sent to you in the recent weeks will come into effect as of 1 September 2021. All previous versions of policies and procedures will be void from this date.
We have been working hard to ensure that the new policies and procedures exceed statutory requirements and we have continued to be generous within these. We offer a non-statutory occupational sickness scheme, which pays generously above the statutory sickness pay scheme run by the government. Alongside this, a benchmarking exercise has been completed with other SU’s in the midlands region to ensure that we continue to offer excellent benefits at LSU. In recent months, we have largely increased the Death in Service benefit, which is now 4 times your salary, to cover all staff. We also contribute 6% towards pensions (statutory requirement is 3%) and offer a Health Shield plan which provides a free Employee Assistance Programme, telephone GP appointments and cashback on health costs. During this term, we will be reviewing our current benefits package and we are excited to share the outcome of this with you in due course.
The most recent update is the vast work completed on our Health & Safety policy and procedures. These have been developed over the past few months and we will be sharing these with you in the coming weeks. It is important that all staff review these policies to ensure LSU continues to be a safe place to work for colleagues, our members and visitors.
Please note that we have published a document on our “People Policies” page detailing the process by which existing and new policies are to be reviewed, approved and implemented. As part of these improvements we will be creating a Team Forum that will be able to, amongst other valuable functions, review policies prior to them being formally received by the Board of Trustees. If you would like to be a member of this forum, please contact our HR Consultant, Jennifer Holmes, to register your interest. This forum is likely to commence meetings from April 2021. Full Terms of Reference will be made available in due course.
