While we’re still not allowed ‘out out’, here’s a list of fun and free virtual ‘dates’ to help you stay connected to the import people in your life. Or, if you need a break from revision, take some time away from the textbooks for some self-care!

1. Make a playlist

You can learn a lot about someone from their music taste, so choose a category and each compile your playlists. You might end up bonding over your shared secret love of *NSYNC (because let’s face it who doesn’t love JT and JC?)

If you decide you’re not a natural DJ don’t worry, playlists from all your favourite LSU Club Nights will be on our Spotify very soon.

2. Cook dinner

Cooking together (but apart) is all the fun on making a meal without the fear of being demoted to Sous Chef and being responsible for the carrots. Some of our favourite places to eat including Wagamama and Nandos are holding weekly live cook-alongs on their Instagram accounts.

The only downside is two lots of dishes

3. Virtual Escape Room

Schedule a break from revision with a virtual escape room, including the same puzzles as a regular escape room but just without the crippling claustrophobia. Find the identity of the mysterious double agent Mr X, or escape from Hogwarts in a Harry Potter themed version.

(‘Alohomora’ doesn’t work, it was the first thing we tried).

4. Visit a Museum

Take in the culture of some of the world’s most prestigious museums from the comfort of your sofa. The Natural History MuseumGuggenheimPicasso Museum and many others have opened their virtual doors, even NASA is offering virtual tours of its Research Centre.

5. Go to the Theatre

Every Thursday the National Theatre is releasing a pre-recorded performance on their YouTube channel. Each play is available to watch for a week and with a diverse offering from classics including Shakespeare to modern plays like Inua Ellams the Barber Shop Chronicles it’s a great way to see some big-name actors on the stage.

6. Head to JC's

The JC’s Quiz is back, online! Ed and Rahul have volunteered to host their weekly quiz from home until they can return to the building for their weekly quiz. You can expect laughs, general knowledge and prizes including JC’s vouchers and Amazon vouchers on the LSU Facebook page on Thursdays from 7pm.

7. Explore the Great Barrier Reef

Grab your snorkel and explore the Great Barrier Reef without the long-haul flight! You’ll be able to see coral, fish and even turtles in this relaxing panoramic underwater video.
